Founded by the Elimi family and located in the northwestern part of Sicily, the old town of Segesta was born on Mount Barbaro, in the municipality of Calatafimi Segesta, 15 km from Alcamo and Castellammare del Golfo. The Archaeological Park consists of the temple, in Doric style, and the ancient theater, currently active with theatrical performances such as Greek tragedies and concerts in the summer. The archaeological site is also made up of the Sanctuary of Contrada Mango, Agora and the naval house, medieval area (city walls, castle near the theater, two Norman churches, the medieval quarter and the mosque). The place has the splendid panorama of the sea and of the hills. It was built at the end of the 3rd century B.C. according to the dictates of Greek-Hellenistic architecture, with local limestone blocks.
